Terms and Conditions

The plain-English rules for using ScamSec. By creating an account or forwarding us an email, you agree to them.

Last updated 1 November 2026

1. Who we are

ScamSec is operated by Puremedia, an Australian business ("we", "us"). You can contact us at support@scamsec.com.

2. What the service does

You forward a suspicious email to your private ScamSec address. We analyse it using automated checks and artificial intelligence, then email you a short assessment: what the message appears to be, how confident we are, and what we suggest you do.

It is guidance, not a guarantee. No tool catches every scam, and some genuine emails will look suspicious. A "safe" result does not promise that an email is safe, and a warning does not promise that it is a scam. You keep the final say, so please use your own judgement and verify requests for money or information using contact details you already trust. If you think you have been scammed, contact your bank and the authorities straight away (in Australia, Scamwatch and ReportCyber).

3. Your account

  • You must be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian agree to these terms for you.
  • Give us accurate details and keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • Each person has their own private inbound address. Only emails sent from the address registered to that person are checked. Please don't share your address publicly.
  • Business plans let you add team members. If you add someone, you confirm you are authorised to do so and that they have been told how their forwarded emails are handled (see our Privacy Policy).

4. Plans, payment and cancellation

  • Plans, monthly check allowances and prices are shown on our pricing page. Prices are in Australian dollars and exclude GST, which is added at checkout where it applies.
  • Paid plans renew monthly until cancelled. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
  • Each plan includes a number of email checks per month. If you use them all, we will let you know and further emails won't be analysed until your allowance renews or you change plan. Unused checks don't roll over.
  • You can cancel at any time from your account. Your plan continues until the end of the period you've paid for, and we don't give part-month refunds, except where required by law or where we've made a billing error.
  • We may change our prices or plans. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice before a change affects your subscription, and you can cancel before it takes effect.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • forward emails that you have no right to share, or that contain unlawful material;
  • use the service to test, tune or improve scams, malware or phishing campaigns;
  • send us large volumes of automated or bulk email, or otherwise try to overload, probe or bypass the limits of the service;
  • resell the service, or use it to build a competing product, without our written permission; or
  • use another person's address or account without their permission.

Suspicious emails can contain malware. We handle attachments safely on our systems, but we ask that you never open or forward them to anyone else, because you didn't need to.

6. Your emails and our handling of them

You keep ownership of the emails you send us. You give us permission to receive, store, analyse and reply about them so we can provide the service, including by passing the content to our service providers as described in our Privacy Policy. We delete the body, headers and attachments of each email within 7 days of receiving it.

To check where links in an email lead, our systems may open those links. This is done from our servers, not your device. We do it carefully, but you should not assume a link is safe because we opened it.

We send our assessment to the sender's address. If an email appears to have a forged sender, we may decide not to reply so that we don't send unwanted mail to someone who was impersonated.

7. Our intellectual property

The ScamSec service, website, name, branding and software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for its intended purpose while you comply with these terms.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the service running and our analysis accurate, but we don't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or retire features, and we'll try to give notice of significant changes.

9. Australian Consumer Law

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms limits those guarantees or any other rights you have as a consumer that can't lawfully be limited. If the service doesn't meet a consumer guarantee, you may be entitled to a remedy, such as a repair, a refund or compensation.

10. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, and subject to section 9:

  • we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data or opportunity;
  • we're not liable for loss that results from you acting, or not acting, on our assessment, including a scam that our analysis did not detect, or a genuine email that it flagged; and
  • our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or, where the law permits, to supplying the service again.

You agree to compensate us for loss we suffer because you broke these terms or forwarded content you had no right to share, to the extent permitted by law.

11. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account if you break these terms, misuse the service, or if we're required to by law, and we'll tell you why when we reasonably can. When an account closes we handle your data as set out in our Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the updated terms.

13. Customers outside Australia

ScamSec is run from Australia. If you use it from another country:

  • you are responsible for following the laws that apply to you, and these terms are not intended to take away mandatory consumer protections you have where you live;
  • prices are charged in Australian dollars, and your bank may add currency conversion or card fees;
  • taxes such as GST or VAT may apply, depending on your location;
  • your emails and account data will be handled in Australia and in other countries where our service providers operate (see our Privacy Policy, section 8); and
  • our service is not designed to analyse regulated or highly sensitive information, such as health records or payment card data. Please don't forward emails containing them unless the suspicious message itself is what you're checking.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and the Commonwealth of Australia. If you have a complaint, please contact us first at support@scamsec.com and we will try to resolve it quickly and fairly.

15. General

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the service. If a part of them is unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we haven't given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our written consent.
